Ph.D. Edgars Edelmers - Doctoral Student of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) - will give a presentation on the topic "AI for Medical Image Analysis: From Bone Metastasis Detection to Astrocyte Segmentation and 3D Reconstruction" as part of the VAC Colloquium.
Afterwards we look forward to discussions while enjoying coffee and cookies.
The event is open to anyone interested.
Abstract:
This presentation provides an overview of ongoing research at Rīga Stradiņš University and the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science focused on AI-driven analysis of medical and histological images. Two main lines of work are presented. The first concerns an AI system for the automated detection and localization of bone metastases in CT and MRI scans. The second addresses the automated segmentation of astrocytes in whole-slide immunohistochemical images as part of a project on blood-brain barrier analysis. Both projects share a common theme of bridging cutting-edge deep learning methodology with practical medical applications, and are complemented by work on 3D morphological structure reconstruction from medical imaging data. The presentation will discuss methodological challenges, current results, and future directions within these interdisciplinary research efforts.
